The adjacent comendium is a conceptual development I have been rolling thinking about for the past few months. I just decided to get the idea down in Pixels&Bytes so it is by no means near completion and I plan on making more arguements to justify the idea as it evolves within my own mind. From hardware like the Proteus Mind Machine to software like I-doser which claims to induce intoxications that mimick various substances and emotional experiences (such as Panic Attacks, Orgasms, and Sleep), the public is just now becoming more aware of the technology of the brain and how to operate it. This has inspired me to think of two hypotethical (disclaimer: i'll call it fiction so you dont call me crazy) situations. One involves the unconscious affect of brain entrainment and another is a scenerio of conscious exploitation of public thought by the government through hypnosis and mania induced thru the corrupt use of this knowledge.
Binaural Mind Control - Let us imagine an office full of cubicles and workers typing away on their computers. Above their heads there are flourescent light fixtures humming a frequency of 1096hZ. The air conditioner kicks on to keep the room a cool 60 degrees and produces noise polution at a 1100hz frequency. The busy workers start to feel lethargic and tired. Tod, that fat human resources guy, yawns really loud, while brenda is drooling past out atop her keyboard. What has happened here? What role does the noise polution generated by random variables within their invornment play in the minds of those subjected to it?
When two stereo frequencies in the range of 1000-1500 hertz differ in tone by 4hz to 40hz they create what are called Binaural beats. A Binaural beat is a powerful form of stimuli that causing a change in brain wave activity. They are inaudible frequencies caused by the difference between the two tones and directly act upon the hemispheres of the brain by causing Entrainment. Entrainment is the syncronization of the wave patterns across both hemispheres of the brain.
Their are five recognized brain wave frequencies Gamma, Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta.

Although this hypotethical situation may seem inplausible to some, I believe their may be a possibility that this phenomenon may occur more frequently than one may think.
I would like to evaluate several environments that are subject to noise polution for the possibilities of the occurance of Binuaral beats. By taking a device to measure the hertz of tones emited by various noise polutants I could look for the presence of two frequencies between 1000 and 1500 hertz which may reveal the presence of binaural beats. Okay so it sounds pretty far fetched right?
Well its about to get worse.
I downloaded this program called MultiFreq that simultaenously generates the tones in hz that you tell it to. As I was playing around with it I recognized several sounds . Kasey pointed out that it sounded nearly identicle to the background sounds in this adult swim commercial that we heard nearly everynight some time ago. Another sounded like the introduction to the Disinfo TV series theme song.
Could the Media or even the government be utilizing binaural beats to hack the minds of its citizens?
How about another crazy hypothetical?
The McFat'nSmilin family loves two things in life. Television and Elections! Everynight they watch faux news and for an entire week a political commercial is played during the breaks. The principal intent of this commercial is to literally Change the minds of those who watch it.
This commercial takes place with the presidential candidate is sitting on a porch swing at a calm rural home. He begins with a friendly message of hope and half way through pictures of his rival appear on the screen with bold fear inducing statements. A gentle song plays quietly in the background in which Binaural beats have been embeded.
The tune begins just prior to the candidates message of hope accompanied by two psychotropic tones (within the magic pitch range of 1khz-15khz) - that varied by 10hz. Because of modern stereo technology the family has a dolby sorround sound system setup which gives the binaural beat its ability to have its effect on the two hemispheres of the brain (*). The family feels comfortable, relaxed and more open to suggestion. At this part of the composition the song begins to crecendo into its second movement that induces Gamma wave syncronization. The oposing candidates picture is on the screen while an announcer in a deep voice warns the McFat'nSmilin family that the opposing candidate will eat their children. The gamma entrainment has induced a state of attentive awareness which evolves into hyperactivity and eventually anxiety. (I have personally seen and experienced Gamma induced anxiety attacks.)
(*note - the stereo aspect is the primary flaw in my office binuaral theory. Definition_Binaural: Relating to or having or hearing with two ears)
